ALEXANDER McQUEEN READY-TO-WEAR SPRING-SUMMER 2000. New York Fashion Week. RUNWAY MAGAZINE ® Collections Special Selection “Fashion Treasure”.

One of the greatest designers who reformed and influenced fashion, who let his “Angels and Demons” out. This is one of the first collections of Alexander McQueen, where we can see very recognizable identity of the designer and several design patterns, which were multiplied and repeated later by many designers.

“Walking on the water”, installation which permitted to the models literally walk on the water, has very special symbolic meaning to Alexander McQueen. It is of course about Jesus, and it is also about feeling of an artist passing trough the life, it is also feeling about special “magical” powers and being capable to move the mountains. That is why he so often repeated this installation trough the years for his shows.

The collection created specifically for New York public presented number of very provocative pieces related to Middle East culture, and turned into pieces in latex, synthetic rubber and plastic, very appreciated by a specific English – American subculture, but not a New Yorkers in general. He also stylized in the sporty looks, rangers ti-shirts and pants. Alexander McQueen hoped for the appreciation by New York for his extreme provocative style, and show scandal. This show indeed went into one of the events remembered in New York, and recreated by Ben Stiller in the film-parody about fashion “Zoolander 2” in 2016. But stylization of American flag on provocative pieces didn’t help to Alexander McQueen to find a way to the hearts of intellectual New Yorkers, so it was the only one show of Alexander McQueen in New York.
