Chanel Pre-Fall 2021 Métiers d’art. Each year since 2002, CHANEL presents in December a collection dedicated to its Crafts. This collection highlights the creative dialogue between Virginie Viard, Artistic Director of CHANEL’s Fashion collections and the Art Houses that enhance the Maison’s creations. This ready-to-wear collection specific to CHANEL celebrates the virtuosity of craftsmen: the jewelers of Maison Desrues, the plumassiers of Maison Lemarié, the hats of Maison Michel, the embroiderers of Maison Lesage and Atelier Montex, the shoemakers of Maison Massaro, the goldsmiths of the Maison Goossens, the glovers of Causse Gantier or the plisseurs of the Maison Lognon located in Paris and in France.
This year, the fashion show for the Métiers d’art 2020/21 collection is taking place at the Château de Chenonceau, located in the Loire Valley and also called the “Château des Dames”.
Located in the Loire Valley, the Château de Chenonceau is the inspiration and location of the show for the Métiers d’art 2020/21 collection. Also called “the Castle of the Ladies”, its history is closely linked to the legendary women who have lived there in turn: Katherine Briçonnet, Diane de Poitiers, Catherine de Médicis, Louise de Lorraine, Gabrielle d’Estrées and Louise Dupin.
In the second half of the XVI th century, the queen of Italian origin, Catherine de Medici, gave this remains the Renaissance splendor. This is evidenced by the number of inscriptions on its monogram in the château’s decor: two intertwined Cs, which bear a disturbing resemblance to the double C that Gabrielle Chanel made appear from 1921 on the cap of CHANEL perfume No. 5.
Beyond the emblematic double C, echoes of the castle’s flourishing history meet the world of CHANEL through the black and white tones of the “Galerie Royale” tiles, the appearance of the lion, a cherished symbol. by Gabrielle Chanel, embroidered tapestries and orderly lines of the gardens of the castle.
An evening at the castle — the CHANEL ‘Le Château des Dames’ 2020/21 Métiers d’art show, a contemporary evocation of the Château de Chenonceau, revealed in the presence of Kristen Stewart. The actress and House ambassador will also be the muse for the collection’s campaign.
