Christian Dior Cruise 2020 Marrakesh April 29. Another surprising collection of Christian Dior Haute Couture House. Maria Grazia Chiuri, artistic director of Christian Dior, presented after Dior crocks and robes-floor rags last season Afro-Dior collection.
Being so called “Bo-bo” or “Bohemian” designer, Maria Grazia Chiuri decided to present pseudo African peasant clothes for Christian Dior Cruise 2020. “Bo-bo” culture in France, no matter how glamorous it looks from outside, known by everything that pseudo or fake. People who blindly adore this style of life, are pretending to be someone they are actually not.
For example a “Bo-bo” (man or woman) gladly participate in any social movement or syndicate manifestation, and scream loudly for the rights of the poor, being relatively wealthy, spending life without having any professional occupation, or doing something for pleasure, living in big apartment in center of the city. “Pure intentions” to protect poor would be understandable if a “Bo-bo” would participate financially in association and actually help to the poor, apart from the screaming during manifestation, but this is not the case. Or another example, a “Bo-bo” often likes to discuss books of Kafka or movies of Werner Herzog, without actually reading or watching them. A “Bo-bo” is a pseudo intellectual, as his knowledge of the intellectual books or movies is coming from short synopsis or vulgarizing short articles about them found on internet. “Bo-bo” is always someone he is not.
This collection of Christian Dior is one of the spectacular example of “bo-bo” culture : the peasant style of African clothes, “cheap Harlem” style bombers for the prices that only very wealthy can afford. Presentation of “Peasant collection for rich” of Christian Dior took place in royal palace of Marrakesh, and finished by private concert of Diana Ross for lucky few. It is such farce of Christian Dior house in “bo-bo” mood to invite Diana Ross for the private concert at very high price, and at the same time to pay so little, according to announced budget, to the artisans of Marrakesh for the embroideries on the pieces of this collection. It is indeed money could make you very cheap, in all senses.
It is still not understandable why Dior house decided to completely erase identity of the house, created by its founder Christian Dior with absolute class and royal grace, ingeniously continued by John Galliano, and to turn it into some dull “bo-bo” clothes brand. Perhaps we would never know. Although what we all know for sure that this Dior brand would not last. In couple of years this brand will be available for sale on real “flee” market of bankruptcy for very cheap price. It is also known that recovery from this brand fiasco will take very long time.
